Essence Review: Eyeshadow, Lip Pencil & Highlighter

Today we celebrate Sinterklaas in The Netherlands and this year I have been spoiled already! A few weeks ago I found these cute little items by Essence in my shoe. Got them from Sinterklaas! I have been on a no buy this entire year, so you can imagine how excited I was with some new goodies! Today I will be reviewing them for you.

I will be reviewing the new Essence Get Picture Ready Eyeshadow Palette, The Essence Pure Nude Highlighter and the Essence Velvet Stick Matt Lipcolour in 02 Peony Star.

I really like the packaging. It looks cute, it’s sturdy and sleek. The pink part has some texture to it. It comes with a mirror and 7,7 grams of product, which is 7 eyeshadows total. A sponge tip applicator is also included.

The colors you get are a nice variation of cool and slightly warmer shades. There are two mattes in here, the cool toned brown shade which is the fourth from the left and the most right shade, the dark brown. Also the letters ” Get picture ready and smile”  are embossed in the shadows. This however wears off really quickly, but I think it’s a nice touch.

In this palette you get a warm highlighter shade, which has a yellow undertone that is actually surprisingly pigmented. You also get a peachy (almost leaning to rose gold) shade which is also quite pigmented. The third shade, a light shimmery taupe doesn’t show up as well on my (light) skin tone. It’s not as pigmented as the first two shimmers. The fourth eyeshadow is a cool toned matte brown, which is buildable, but isn’t very pigmented and is a little bit chalky. The next two shimmers are absolutely stunning: you get a very pigmented shimmery bronze and a really gorgeous highly pigmented shimmery purple-taupe shade. Both are very beautiful. The last, most right, shade is a dark cool toned brown. It has more pigment than the other matte shade, but still is a bit chalky. Nonetheless , it’s very usable. I don’t experience much fallout with this little palette!.

I hope you can see that the shadows are nicely pigmented (with a few exceptions), but natural. Ideal for work or school in my opinion.

For €4,99 I think it’s a really nice little palette! I’ve been using it a lot since I got it.

The packaging of this highlighter is just like the Pure Nude Powders, which have unfortunately been discontinued in The Netherlands. The packaging is nothing special and a little bit dome shaped, so that makes it a bit more difficult to store. Also I think that the cap might not survive being carried around in a purse too often. But still: it’s about the product that’s inside!

This highlighter is very neutral. It is beige with a slight hint of a gold as well as a pink sheen. I think it’s suitable for almost every skin tone. It might be slightly too dark for the fairest of the fairest, but it can easily be blended out. I think this is suitable for dark skin tones as well, because it is so easy to build up. This gives a natural glow to the cheeks, without any shimmers, but can be build up to full shine, almost wet looking. Even build up it still looks natural. It doesn’t look like you’re wearing a highlighter at all. There’s a lot of hype on YouTube and I understand why!

The first photo shows you a concentrated swatch, the second photo shows you the product blended out. As you can see: no shimmers/ glitters which I think is a good thing!

I love this Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in 10 Be My highlight. € 3,59 is a good deal in my opinion!

I’m glad that some lip products are sealed again with some tape, because I can’t stand the fact that people open up products even though there are testers. Why would anyone do that? The downside unfortunately is ugly stickiness on the pencil itself.

This is not a twistup pencil. You need to have a bigger sharpener for this one. I have one of those so for me that’s not a big deal. The color is a mauve winter pink. Really pretty and creamy. This pencil makes it easy to apply the color, it doesn’t tug at the lips and dries down matte. Not like a flat liquid lipstick matte, but slightly more velvet, as the name says. This pencil does not feel dry on the lips. The staying power is quite good actually. I would say it lasts about 4 to 5 hours, depending on what and if you eat or drink. But this is so easy to throw in you purse and reapply that I don’t mind that.

I absolutely love this color. I have neutral to warm toned skin and some cool toned lip products can look really ashy and grey on me, but this one doesn’t. I can really recommend this colour. For € 1,99 is a good deal!

All three of these items are available at Kruidvat and Trekpleister in stores and online (Netherlands). I would recommend all three! Even if they were higher in price I would still recommend them. Great quality for a good price and….. cruelty free!

Thanks so much for visiting and lots of love!
